I invite you to partner with me in your child’s musical development by doing the following:
Providing an 88-key acoustic piano, if you don’t have already have one, either by rental or purchase—proper technique and musicality cannot be produced on an electronic keyboard. (There are many acoustic pianos offered at extremely low prices or sometimes given away (!) on Craig’s List and Ebay)
Providing a quiet space to house your piano, free from the distraction of the television and other family members’ activities; this will set your child up for meaningful practice sessions.
Having your child wash hands thoroughly right before the lesson – let’s keep the studio as germ-free as possible!
Being present and attentive in the studio during your child’s lesson – sometimes a child doesn’t remember all the details of an assignment – you can help by reviewing the practice sheet with him/her regularly.
Being present during your child’s practice time – you will be a great help in supporting what was presented at the lesson and with teaching your child how to manage time effectively.
Music-making is a joyful activity but learning to do so requires commitment and daily practice. It is expected that your child practice daily so s/he is prepared for the lesson every week. It is understood that some weeks are better than others for a student when it comes to practicing – but if there more than a few lessons in succession that your child is unprepared, allow me to work with both of you to create a strategy to get things back on track!
Your lives are extremely busy with school and work obligations. Playing the piano is a great outlet for relieving stress, mindfulness meditation, and relaxation! With that in mind, consistent practice will contribute and enhance your musical experience. We will be studying repertoire, music theory and aural skills (ear training). Carve out a time each day, just for you, free from distraction, for piano practice, even if it’s just 15 or 20 minutes at times. A daily regimen of practice will yield satisfying results! Please allow me to partner with you to establish an organized routine to follow if you need structure!
Always bring a positive attitude to your lesson – let’s have fun!
